The Famous “Amy’s Fall Mix”

bowl of snack mix with nuts and chocolate

Even if the weather registers an unseasonably warm 89 degrees, it finally feels like “Fall” to me when Amy’s Fall Mix makes its grand appearance in a big glass jar on the kitchen counter. This little treat has become a sweet autumn tradition in our home, and brings such joy! Every year when I mix a batch, it reminds me of friends and family who have received and shared this sweet treat, especially my friend Amy, who began this tradition almost 20 years ago!

It’s the easiest and yummiest snack mix ever, and is the best “happy” to pass along to family, neighbors, teachers, co-workers, and friends. In fact, Amy’s Fall Mix has been the most requested and downloaded recipe in the history of the SmellingCoffee.com blog.

Want to Make Some?

It’s totally customizable, but here is the original recipe (with a few additional notes):

Amy’s Fall Mix Recipe

Simply stir all of these together in a big bowl:

  • 1–2 bags Candy Corn or Autumn Mix
  • 1 bag Indulgent Trail Mix (can get this at Walmart)
  • 1–2 bags M&Ms (Fall colors, plain and peanut)
Jennifer’s tip: If you can’t find fall colors, just pull out the blue ones from a regular bag!
  • 1 can Toffee Peanuts (Dollar General or DG Market — sometimes Walgreens has them too.)
Jennifer’s tip: If you can’t find these, use some sugared almonds, pecans, or even those candied Boston Baked Beans.
  • 1 can Mixed Nuts or Salted Peanuts
  • 1 box Sugar Babies

Amy’s advice:

“This mix is also great because there are really no exact measurements or ingredients involved. If you don’t like Sugar Babies, just leave them out!

My only word of caution — don’t add Cheerios or pretzels; they get soggy.

For around $30 you can be a blessing to many people this season!
Be aware that this mix can become addictive…”

Mmmmm, Mmmmm, Good!

Amy is right! This mix is addictive!!!

I usually follow her recipe exactly, but sometimes I’ll toss in a few extras just for fun. The colors always turn out so pretty — rich golds, shades of browns, reds, and oranges that look like Autumn in a bowl.

And the taste? Let’s just say… “Mmmmm, Mmmm, Good!”

(There was one year, though — I think it was 2009 — when M&M’s thought purple and green belonged in their fall mix. Thankfully, it seems like they learned their lesson! haha)

Sharing the Goodness

Once your mix is ready, package it up in:

  • Mason jars tied with ribbon or twine
  • Disposable plastic containers
  • Little cellophane bags tied with fall-colored bows

Take it to a party, drop some off at the office, share with your delivery people, bless a neighbor, or simply keep it on your counter for family and guests to enjoy.

But don’t stop there — along with this sweet treat, add a small note of encouragement, thank-you, or a Scripture card tucked inside. Because:

“Kind words are like honey — sweet to the soul and healthy for the body.”
— Proverbs 16:24

A Little Kindness (and Chocolate) Goes a Long Way

You may not be able to fix everything going on in someone’s life — but you can hand them a small jar of joy, made with love and prayer. Each little container of Amy’s Fall Mix becomes a message that says:

“You are seen, you are loved, and you are not forgotten.”

So grab your biggest bowl, stir up a batch, and pray over the people who’ll receive it. Ask God to use your small act of kindness to bring comfort, connection, and happiness.
